REPUBLIC ACT No. 5048
AN ACT AMENDING SECTIONS ONE AND FOURTEEN OF REPUBLIC ACT NUMBERED FORTY-ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-ONE.
Section 1. Section one of Republic Act Numbered Forty-one hundred sixty-one, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 1. Subject to the provisions of the Constitution and the provisions of Act Numbered Three thousand eight hundred and forty-six, entitled "An Act providing for the regulation of radio stations and radio communications in the Philippine Islands, and for other purposes;" Act Numbered Three thousand nine hundred and ninety-seven, known as the Radio Broadcasting Law; Commonwealth Act Numbered One hundred forty-six, known as the Public Service Act, and their amendments, and other applicable laws, there is hereby granted to the Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corporation hereinafter referred to as the "grantee" a franchise to establish, install, operate and maintain in the Philippines, at such places as the said grantee may select, telecommunications (radio, telegraph and telephone) systems, lines, circuits and/or stations, wire and/or wireless, for international and domestic public communications, including stations for broadcasting and...

Amendments to Republic Act No. 4161
- Grants the Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (the "grantee") a franchise to establish, install, operate and maintain telecommunications systems in the Philippines for international and domestic public communications. (Section 1)
• This includes radio, telegraph, telephone, broadcasting, television, and other communication systems.
• The grantee can receive and transmit messages, impressions, pictures, music, entertainment, advertising, and signals within the Philippines and between the Philippines and foreign countries. (Section 1)
• The grantee can supply and/or lease facilities for these purposes and charge compensation through tolls or charges. (Section 1)
- The franchise is not an exclusive grant, and if any competing entity receives more favorable terms or provisions, those terms shall automatically become part of the grantee's franchise. (Section 14)
- The Act took effect upon its approval on June 17, 1967. (Section 3)
