Summary of Republic Act No. 4902- Amends the Armed Forces Retirement Act to extend benefits to certain military personnel and guerrilla members during World War II. (Section 1)
Eligibility:
• Retired under Commonwealth Act No. 190, or
• Honorably separated with gratuity under Commonwealth Act No. 1, Section 22(g), or
• Retired under Republic Act No. 340 and/or No. 1616 with effective date after June 22, 1957, or
• Retired under Act No. 4151, and
• Were in active service of the Philippine Army or recognized guerrilla organization between December 8, 1941, and September 2, 1945. (Section 1(a))
• Completed at least 20 years of active service on the date of original retirement or separation. (Section 1(b))
Benefits:
• Option to receive annual retirement pay instead of gratuity paid under Republic Act No. 340 and/or No. 1616. (Section 2)
• Widows and/or minor children can exercise the option within 5 years from the approval of this Act if the retiree is deceased. (Section 2)
• No payment of retirement pay accrued prior to the approval of this Act. (Section 2)
Implementation:
• The Armed Forces of the Philippines shall notify all retired military personnel concerned about this Act. Failure to do so is a dereliction of duty. (Section 3)
• Necessary funds shall be appropriated from the general fund and included in the annual General Appropriations Act. (Section 4)
• Effective upon approval on June 17, 1967. (Section 5)

AN ACT FURTHER AMENDING THE ARMED FORCES RETIREMENT ACT, AS AMENDED
Section 1. Section one of Republic Act Numbered Eighteen hundred and sixty-two, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 1. The provisions of existing laws to the contrary notwithstanding, and subject to the special provisions and limitations hereinafter provided, the provisions of Republic Act Numbered Three hundred forty, including all amendments thereto on the date this Act takes effect, shall be and are hereby made applicable to persons (1) retired under the provisions of Commonwealth Act Numbered One hundred ninety, or (2) honorably separated with gratuity under subsection (g), Section twenty-two of Commonwealth Act Numbered One, otherwise known as the National Defense Act, or (3) retired under Republic Act Numbered Three hundred forty and/or Republic Act Numbered Sixteen hundred sixteen with effective date of retirement after June twenty-two, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven, of (4) retired under Act Numbered Forty-one hundred fifty-one and which persons
