March 30, 2011POEA MARKET UPDATE NO. 09-11CYPRUS INCREASES MINIMUM WAGE FOR HOUSEHOLD SERVICE WORKERSIn a news article published in the Cyprus Weekly on January 20, 2011, the Cyprus government recently announced that it has increased the minimum wage of household service workers (HSWs) from €429 (US$574) to €456 (US$610) as of December 2010. According to the Migration Service, the five (5) percent increase includes the gross amount and the cost of living allowance. The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Cyprus has clarified that out of the gross salary rate of €429, 25% shall be deducted for the board and lodging expenses of the HSWS and cost of medical insurance where the HSW will have to shoulder 50% of the insurance cost.POLO-Cyprus is expecting that subsequent processing of employment contracts will show a salary of not less than €311.00 which is the net salary of the HSW.
