April 2011POEA MARKET UPDATE NO. 07-11DEMAND FOR FOREIGN WORKERS IN AUSTRALIA REMAINS BRIGHTBagong Henerasyon (BH) Partylist Representative, Hon. Bernadette Herrera-Uy has reported on the bright employment opportunities for Filipino workers in Australia, particularly in Queensland and Victoria. According to Congresswoman Uy, who headed the 5th Philippine Center of Young Leaders in Governance Delegation to Australia, the said territories are now undergoing reconstruction after they were hit by the devastating flash floods in December 2010. The reconstruction projects will require trades people such as construction workers, welders and carpenters. She also reported on the huge requirements of Australia for information and technology people as well as mining workers. The report cited Australia's preference for Filipino workers as manifested by the statements made by the country's high-ranking government officials, both from the current administration and opposition members on the need for Filipino workers.The Australian government is currently implementing the Skilled Migration Policy in response to the need for skills that are in shortage in Australia.
