October 2009POEA MARKET UPDATE NO. 03-10JEDDAH TO BECOME A WORLD CLASS CITYThe Municipality of Jeddah and the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has signed an agreement to realize the strategic vision of making Jeddah a world-class city. Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakieh and JCCI Chairman Muhammad Al-Fadhl signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 2009. The MOU aims to strengthen the relations between JCCI and the Municipality of Jeddah to improve services required for the city's development plans and investment projects. Among the salient points in the MOU are the following:• enhancement of Jeddah's facilities by building new roads and utility services to meet the requirements of the city's growing population;• recognition of the role of the private sector in the economic, social and construction projects for the Makkah province in general and Jeddah in particular;• development of a framework for the participation of businessmen in implementing small non-profitable projects for the benefit of the society; and,• protection of the city's environment and eradication of pollution.Chairman Al-Fadhl said that the agreement would contribute...
