May 4, 2020POEA ADVISORY NO. 57-20MALAYSIA EXTENDS MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER (MCO) UNTIL 12 MAY 2020The government of Malaysia has announced that the Movement Control Order (MCO) which began in 18 March 2020 and has been extended twice is once again extended until 12 May 2020. The MCO was supposed to end on 28 April 2020. The announcement was made by Malaysia's Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last 23 April 2020 during his Ramadan address to the nation. The extension of the MCO aims to give more time to medical personnel to combat the spread of COVID-19 and prevent its re-emergence in the said country.The original MCO refers to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Order 2020 issued by the Malaysian Prime Minister on 16 March 2020. The basic restrictions under the said MCO include prohibiting the entry of all foreigners into the country except for those with diplomatic passports, permanent residence status and expatriates employed under essential services subject to approval by the Immigration Department.
