January 7, 2004MANUAL ON LABOR STANDARDSIntroductionLabor standards enforcement is a basic mandate of the Department of Labor and Employment to protect workers' rights and promote their welfare. This is carried out through the labor inspectorate in the Regional Offices of the Department. With the current number of labor inspectors covering a universe of 815,444 establishments as reported by the National Statistics Office in 2000, enforcement of labor standards necessitates expanding the reach of the Department through partnership with labor and employers' organization as well as with other professional organizations that also have a stake on the welfare and protection of our workers.
