December 29, 1983POEA MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 002-A-83TO:All Filipino Seamen, Manning Agencies, Shipowners and Principals Hiring Filipino Seamen SUBJECT:Revised Employment Contract Governing the Employment of All Filipino Seamen on Board any Ocean-Going Vessel Please be informed that the Governing Board of this Administration, on the recommendation of a tripartite technical working group, has recently approved a revised employment contract (copy attached) that will govern the employment of all Filipino seamen on board any ocean-going vessel effective 01 February 1984. Among others, this revised employment contract provides for the following:1. a provision for additional compensation for certain duties which a seamen may be asked by the master to perform such as hatchcleaning, winchman's duties and tank cleaning;2. death benefits amounting to P220,000 for Master and Chief Engineer; P180,000 for Officers; and P130,000 for ratings;3. burial allowance amounting P12,000;4. a schedule of permanent total or partial disability benefits for injury or illness during the term of employment;5. a clearer definition of the obligations and privileges of both the seaman and employer;6. baggage loss allowance up to US$500.00;7. a...
