August 2008POEA MARKET UPDATE NO. 20-08SINGAPORE'S POWER PROJECT OFFERS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO FILIPINOSThe Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Singapore reported recently that the government of Singapore had awarded Project Power Seraya to Samsung C & T of South Korea. Power Seraya currently supplies 28% of Singapore's energy needs. The project requires the supply of equipment, tools and manpower for the erection and installation of piping (PKG2) for the power conversion works. It also involves the erection and installation of heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) at the Power Seraya Worksite. Sampyung Singapore Pte. Ltd., a sub-contractor of Samsung C & T of South Korea, will undertake the project.For the power project, the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore had approved the recruitment of the following categories and number of workers from the Philippines:• Planning Engineer — 67• Material Controller — 34• QC Inspector — 64• Safety Officer — 34• Tool Keeper — 18• Material — 70The project is expected to be completed by February 2010.
