March 11, 1993WORKERS ENTITLEMENT TO HOLIDAY PAY ON 9 APRIL 1993, ARAW NG KAGITINGAN AND GOOD FRIDAYThis Bulletin is in response to the numerous queries which have been received by this Department lately regarding the payment of holiday pay for the two regular holidays, namely: Araw ng Kagitingan and Good Friday which fall on the same day, April 9 of this year.1. Payment of holiday payUnder Article 94 of the Labor Code, workers are assured of their daily wage on regular holidays, subject to certain conditions. There are ten (10) regular holidays in a year being observed nationwide and these are enumerated in Executive Order No. 203 dated June 30, 1987 and reiterated in Executive Order 292 (the Administrative Code) dated July 25, 1987. digestThe intent of the law on the payment of holiday pay has been clarified by the Supreme Court when it pointed out "that the purpose of a holiday pay is obvious; that is to prevent diminution of the monthly income of the workers on account of work interruptions.
