REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10043
AN ACT ESTABLISHING A MALARIA, TROPICAL AND INFECTIOUS DISEASE RESEARCH AND TREATMENT INSTITUTE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF SIBUTU, PROVINCE OF TAWI-TAWI, INTEGRATING THERETO THE DATU ALAWADDIN BANDON HOSPITAL, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:
Section 1. There is hereby established a Malaria, Tropical and Infectious Disease Research and Treatment Institute in the Municipality of Sibutu, Province of Tawi-Tawi, integrating thereto the Datu Alawaddin Bandon Hospital.
Section 2. The Institute shall be at par with a secondary hospital with a capacity of at least fifty (50) beds. Aside from the existing facility of the Datu Alawaddin Bandon Hospital, the Institute will be housed in two (2) new buildings; each with a capacity of at least twenty-five (25) beds. Establishment of Malaria, Tropical and Infectious Disease Research and Treatment Institute
- A Malaria, Tropical and Infectious Disease Research and Treatment Institute is established in the Municipality of Sibutu, Province of Tawi-Tawi, integrating the Datu Alawaddin Bandon Hospital. (Section 1)
- The Institute shall be at par with a secondary hospital with a capacity of at least 50 beds, housed in two new buildings with a capacity of at least 25 beds each, in addition to the existing Datu Alawaddin Bandon Hospital facility. (Section 2)
- The Institute will service the Municipality of Sibutu as well as other municipalities of the province. (Section 2)
Gradual Establishment and Facilities
- The establishment of the Institute shall be done gradually over a two-year period. (Section 3)
- In the first year, a 50-bed facility will be built in Barangay Hadji Bidin, Municipality of Sibutu. (Section 3)
- In the second year, satellite facilities will be established in the other 10 municipalities throughout the province. (Section 3)
Supervision and Research Repository
- The Institute shall be under the supervision of the Department of Health (DOH). (Section 4)
- The Institute shall be a repository of all data and base for researches on malaria, tropical and infectious diseases. (Section 4)
Funding and Operationalization
- The Secretary of Health shall immediately include the operationalization of the Institute in the Department's programs, and the funding shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act. (Section 5)
- The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao shall continue to provide funds for the operation of the Datu Alawaddin Bandon Hospital until its actual integration into the Institute, after which the funding shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act. (Section 5)
Effectivity
- The Act shall take effect upon its approval. (Section 6)
