Summary of Presidential Decree No. 1236Creation of the Municipality of Lakewood
- Barangays Gatub and Bagong Kahayag from Kumalarang, and Barangays Lakewood, Bolalawan, Sebugay, Bisuangan, Lokoan, Backing, Dagum, Sapang Pinolis, Tubod, Gasa, Tiwales and Matalang from Lapuyan are separated to form the new Municipality of Lakewood in Zamboanga del Sur. (Section 1)
- The seat of government shall be in Barangay Lakewood. (Section 1)
Applicability of Laws
- Except as provided, all laws applicable to regular municipalities shall apply to Lakewood. (Section 2)
Transition of Officials
- Current elective officials of Lapuyan shall continue duties in Lakewood until new officials are appointed by the President. (Section 3)
- Appointed officials shall hold office until successors are elected in the next regular elections, unless removed by the President. (Section 3)
- Necessary appointive officers and employees shall be appointed to organize the new municipal government. (Section 3)
Transfer of Assets and Liabilities
- Lakewood's proportionate share of obligations, funds, assets and property from Kumalarang and Lapuyan shall be transferred upon recommendation of the Commission on Audit. (Section 4)
Repealing Clause
- Inconsistent laws, executive orders or regulations are repealed or modified accordingly. (Section 5)
Effectivity
- This Decree shall take effect immediately. (Section 6)

PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1236
CREATING THE MUNICIPALITY OF LAKEWOOD IN THE PROVINCE OF ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR
WHEREAS, self-reliant communities are a must in line with the intensified governmental development projects geared toward the hastening up of the pace of economic development throughout the country;
WHEREAS, the primordial aim of development can be best achieved by the creation of local government units which could, through faster administrative response, greatly contribute to the social, cultural and economic needs of our people;
WHEREAS, in the execution of said programs, close supervision by local officials is a necessity not only to enhance the development of the areas involved but simultaneously to insure peace and order therein;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers in me vested by the Constitution, do hereby order and decree, as part of the law of the land, the following:
