Summary of Presidential Decree No. 1550Creation of the Municipality of Sarangani
- The islands of Sarangani and Balut, previously part of the Municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao del Sur, are separated to form the new Municipality of Sarangani. (Section 1)
- The seat of government for the new municipality is in Barangay Mabila, island of Balut. (Section 1)
Applicability of Laws
- Except as provided in the decree, all laws applicable to regular municipalities shall apply to the Municipality of Sarangani. (Section 2)
Transition of Officials and Personnel
- The current elective municipal officials of Jose Abad Santos shall continue their duties in the new Municipality of Jose Abad Santos until new officials are appointed by the President. (Section 3)
- The appointed officials shall hold office until their successors are elected in the next regular elections and have qualified, unless removed earlier by the President. (Section 3)
- Necessary appointive officers and employees shall be appointed to organize the government personnel of the Municipality of Sarangani as provided by existing laws. (Section 3)
Transfer of Obligations, Funds, Assets, and Property
- Upon the decree's effectivity, the proportionate share of Sarangani in the obligations, funds, assets, and other property of Jose Abad Santos shall be transferred to the new municipality upon the recommendation of the Commission on Audit. (Section 4)
Repeal and Modification of Inconsistent Laws
- All laws, executive orders, or regulations inconsistent with this decree are hereby repealed or modified accordingly. (Section 5)
Effectivity
- This decree shall take effect immediately. (Section 6)

PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1550
CREATING THE MUNICIPALITY OF SARANGANI IN THE PROVINCE OF DAVAO DEL SUR
WHEREAS, the fundamental aim of the state is the hasten up the pace of economic development throughout the country;
WHEREAS, the primordial aim of development can only be effectively implemented by the creation of local government units which could, through faster administrative response, greatly contribute to the social, educational, cultural and economic needs of our people;
WHEREAS, it has been the clamor of the residents of the proposed municipality with the conformity of all the local officials to create the proposed municipality so as to attain a closer supervision of the execution of the development programs of the locality; and
WHEREAS, the new municipality will become a self-reliant community once intensified government projects are made in line with the declared policy of the government to uplift the socio-economic well-being of the residents therein;
