EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 335 August 25, 1988
ENJOINING ALL DEPARTMENTS/BUREAUS/OFFICES/ AGENCIES/INSTRUMENTALITIES OF THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE SUCH STEPS AS ARE NECESSARY FOR THE PURPOSE OF USING FILIPINO LANGUAGE IN OFFICIAL TRANSACTIONS, COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE
WHEREAS, the 1987 Constitution provides that the "national language of the Philippines is Filipino"; that "as it evolves, it shall be further developed and enriched on the basis of existing Philippine and other languages"; and that for "purposes of communication and instruction, the official languages of the Philippines are Filipino and, until otherwise provided by law, English"; and
WHEREAS, the intensified use of Filipino language in official transactions, communications and correspondence in government offices will hasten greater understanding and appreciation among the people of government programs, projects and activities throughout the country, thereby serving as an instruments of unity and peace for national process.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, do thereby enjoin all departments/bureaus/offices/agencies/instrumentalities of the government to undertake the following:

Summary of Executive Order No. 335
Objective: Enjoining all government departments, bureaus, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities to take necessary steps for using the Filipino language in official transactions, communications, and correspondence.
Provisions:
- Enhance the use of Filipino in all official communications, transactions, and correspondence in government offices, both national and local. (Section 1)
- Assign personnel to handle communications and correspondence written in Filipino. (Section 2)
- Translate into Filipino the names of offices, buildings, public offices, and signboards, with the option to imprint the English text below in smaller letters. (Section 3)
- Filipinize the "Oath of Office" for government officials and personnel. (Section 4)
- Include proficiency in using Filipino for official communications and correspondence as part of training programs for personnel development. (Section 5)
Implementation:
- The Institute of Philippine Languages is ordered to formulate and implement programs and projects, including:
1. Information campaign on the importance and necessity of Filipino for national unity and progress. (Section 1)
2. Translation of the Executive Order and government terms into Filipino as reference materials. (Section 2)
3. Training of government officials and personnel in using Filipino. (Section 3)
4. Monitoring implementation and submitting periodic progress reports to the Office of the President through the Department of Education, Culture and Sports. (Section 4)
5. Considering other strategies for full implementation. (Section 5)
- The Institute of Philippine Languages is authorized to coordinate with and request support from all government departments, bureaus, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities, both national and local.
- This Executive Order supersedes Executive Order No. 187 dated August 6, 1969.
